The new MRT Blue Line has granted people as well as new development the ease of access to Bangkok's most charming old commercial district, Bangkok Chinatown (Yaowarat). However, the community now faces the question of how to make the new expansion and old charm blend in harmoniously with respect to the original values of the area itself.

To honor Yaowarat as an important historical learning neighbourhood that reflects Thai cultural diversity, Dr Yongtanit Pimonsathean and Mrs Eileen Deeley will conduct a day trip for members and non-members to discover Yaowarat’s hidden heritage. Members will explore and learn about Chinese art and culture through large and tiny Chinese and Vietnamese temples and shrines in small alleys of Yaowarat and Charoenkrung Road. Meet and discuss with two Chinese communities: one is working on preserving local traditions and history, while the other is restoring a huge group of over hundred years old shophouses. At lunch, you will experience the true taste of Bangkok Chinatown’s local delicacies served on the 25th floor of The Grand China Hotel Bangkok with panoramic view of the city and the Chao Phraya River.

The group will meet at 8.45am at Wat Mangkorn MRT station (Exit 3) and start walking at 9am. The trip will end at around 4.30pm at Luean Rit Community on Yaowarat Road.
